It was a long, hot day on the water for the 185 boats in 18 classes that participated in the 54th annual Race to Oxford. Light winds, searing temperatures and severe humidity made it tough on sailors and organizers alike.
Race committee officials with the Naval Academy Sailing Squadron did the best they could in a difficult situation, moving the starting line south to Thomas Point in order to give the fleet a head start toward Oxford. When the fickle breeze fell out even more, the starting line was shifted even further south toward Poplar...
