When is 26.2 miles not enough? Well, there are marathons and then there are "ultra" marathons (races more than 26.2). Right here in our backyard we have one of the most popular ultras in the country -the JFK 50 Miler that runs from Boonsboro to Williamsport in western Maryland. According to UltraRunning Magazine, there has been a big expansion in North American ultras in the past few years and a 20 percent increase in finishers from 2007 to 2008.
