While most of us in the area were working on our second or third shoveling, four local athletes were enduring their own kind of agony. Bill Vickers, Dave Petty, Kerri Robbins and Mike Berry traveled to Homosassa, Fla., to participate in the Swamp Stomp 30-hour adventure race last month.
Adventure racing is a team endurance competition normally consisting of trekking/trail running, mountain biking, and canoe paddling - usually with other activities like rappeling, river swimming or even a brain teaser thrown in. All team members complete the event together and must stay within 100 feet of each other at all times.
