Teachers union unlikely to accept Rhee's plan
WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Washington Teachers' Union president has virtually ruled out that his union will accept a proposal that would allow tenured teachers to get huge salary increases and bonuses in exchange for spending a year on probation.
Schools Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee's plan would unfairly deprive teachers of due process and expose them to arbitrary firing by principals, George Park said Thursday, adding that the measure is a major obstacle to a tentative deal on a new contract.
