CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Allegany County Sheriff David Goad has taken out advertisements seeking up to 14 patrol deputies.
But the acting county administrator said the move comes "somewhat as a surprise."
Goad ran the ads at least twice last week and over the weekend to fill slots held by officers working for the county Bureau of Police. There was a public notice with the county's response in Sunday's Cumberland Times-News.
