Montgomery council cuts $33 million from budget
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) _ The Montgomery County Council is resisting some proposed budget cuts for schools as the county works to close a projected $500 million budget shortfall for next year.
County Executive Isiah Leggett called for $49 million in cuts, including a $19 million reduction for county schools. Council members said Tuesday the bulk of the education cuts would be premature, but accepted $3 million in cuts suggested by the school system.
