UNION MILLS, Md. (AP) — The men portraying Union soldiers were outnumbered nearly 3 to 1 by the Confederate re-enactors at the Union Mills Homestead.
But they were the ones still standing July 19, after both sides had exhausted the gunpowder in their unloaded Civil War era rifles.
While no battle actually took place at the Homestead during the war, about 100 re-enactors coming from as far away as Ohio acted out two battles during the annual encampment and living history event over the weekend.
