RAWLINGS, Md. (AP) — Walking though a 37-acre cornfield with what looks like a wide "H" hanging from his neck, Timothy Horsley, an archaeological geophysicist from the University of Michigan's Museum of Anthropology, keeps pace with a steady beep.

Archaeological geophysicist Tim Horsley from the University of Michigan's Museum of Anthropology uses a magnetometer to detect small changes in the Earth's magnetic pull on the former Barton Farm property near Rawlings, Md. in April. Horsley was hired by the Western Maryland Archaeological Society to scan the Barton Farm for changes in the Earth's magnetic field. The wide "H" around his neck, a type of magnetometer, is helping him scan the farm, and the beep is a guide for him.
