Revenue Source - 2010-01-19 19:41:48

I've talked to a friend who lives in Rockville about this subject. People do learn to slow down but only at the spot where the cameras are.

This is another revenue source for a tax-and-spend-happy state.

Why can't this state be more affordable to live in? The middle class is getting squeezed to the point that people are deciding not to have children or the only way that it is possible is to move out of the state. People love Obama, but he came from a state where income tax is a third of what it is here. Where is the fiscal responsibility? It's said when people joke that they'd make more money in this state by not working...

Same for everyone - 2010-01-19 19:14:16

Stanley, Thats a question I would like to know.If any police officers who were not responding to an emergency got a ticket and what was done about it. To often I see police racing past everyone with no emergency lights on. If I as a citizen must obey the speed limit than so should those who are suppose to uphold the law. As for people getting speeding tickets, oh well if you speed you get a ticket

You say we should hike toll booth rates - that's all well in good maybe for you, but times are tight for me as well as others. Why should we have to pay more, because jackasses can't control their speed? I don't think so. I say keep the speed cameras in, if you want to speed you have to pay the price. Plain and simple speeding is breaking the law, so if you want to break the law you have to pay the piper.

easy money - 2010-01-18 18:47:34

hey, the State is in dire need of funds. I'm all for making it off people breaking the law. If folks are following the simple rules they leran in drivers ed, then there would not be any rear ending due to red light cameras.

speed - 2010-01-18 14:29:15

does speed cause the crash,NO, look at nascar ,cars are going over 140 mph which i don't think any of you know what is like to go 140 you would need clean underware it's the driver error or car problems that cause the crash and i know darn well you can't drive 1 inch off the car in front of you going 25 drive a racecar and you know speed does not cause the crash!!

red light cameras - 2010-01-18 14:13:14

first the cycle is to short thats why you have rear enders and like the ones I see all the time including police just to get to the next light since they can't run the next when there are cars in front of them, and the ones that do it all the time have an illegal tag or one of the covers which block it from an angle.

why not just install toll booths? - 2010-01-18 11:17:02

Who are we kidding? If the idea worked and people respected the big signs about speeding enforcement in that area, you wouldn't be able to give out 8,800 tickets. These cameras DO NOT SLOW TRAFFIC. What they do is generate lots of revenue for the state with minimal effort.

The problems: If they don't slow traffic, what's the point? Let's just increase a toll and call it even.

The camera cannot differentiate between drivers. The registered owner(s) of a car get the fine. So if you're like most people and you live with a spouse and possibly other family members, YOU get the fine for letting your family use the car. I'd love to know how rental car and car-share companies deal with this -- what a mess!

This is the same flawed logic that put in red light cameras. State rakes in $$$ in easy money. And what they found out is rear-end collisions INCREASED in those intersections, as confused drivers slammed on the breaks at yellow lights.

Don't we have real crimes to prosecute? And if anyone complains "speeders cause accidents", "speed" by itself does not cause anything. It's rapid change in speed, improper lane change, or inattentive driving resulting in lost control which cause accidents. And if you do indeed cause an accident, you will be ticketed anyway, so those who are actually doing harm are already being addressed.
