Jehovah's witnesses - 2008-01-19 19:25:49

Many religions have a cult type mentality. They have little to do with God, except using Him to brainwash their followers. For much of conservative religion that want us to live in the past, the leaders use - I call it terrorism - the promise of burning in hell for eternity if you don't do as they say, and combine it with the promise (kind of an unprovable insurance policy) that death isn't death if you follow them, in order to gain power over you. Why, because having a large group of followers reinforces the leaders beliefs, often laced with doubts, and insecurity. And this power breeds greed for more power, and the ultimate examples are the wars throughout history, almost all of which had either a religious basis or a religious undertone and support. And of course there was 9/11, just another example of what religious power can breed. But before we cast total blame, we should remember that the Muslim people suffered through 600 years (900-1500) of Christian Crusades, in the name of God, that killed as many as 50 million, and set into their culture the underlying hatred that was exploited by Bin Laden. So, be aware, and beware - is your religion telling people how to live their lives, and in particular is it using religious denigration of some minority group in our society to strengthen their grips on peoples minds. Could all religion be summarized into "do unto others as you would have them do unto you", and most of the rest is superfluous?

Christian or Cult - 2008-01-19 07:34:50

Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult because they try to cut you off from others who do not have the same beliefs, including family.

NO tolerance for the beliefs of others.
