JOSEPH STEFFEN was never a friend of the state's Democrats, but now the political operative is not much of a friend to the Republicans either. Since he was fired by Gov. Robert Ehrlich for spreading online rumors about Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley's private life, Mr. Steffen has become an easy target for Democrats who want to seize on this misstep to harass Mr. Ehrlich about his personnel policies. The Democrats would be better advised to let Mr. Steffen rest in the political graveyard.
