A wild Melges finals ride for Annapolis teamPublished 05/17/07
Othmar von Blumencron and his Annapolis-based team aboard Gannet had a rough ending to the Fullpower Melges 24 World Championship, hosted last week by the Santa Cruz Yacht Club. Monterey Bay served up a wild finish to the regatta with winds howling up to 30 knots for the ninth and final race. Gannet was negotiating the final downwind leg when the mast snapped in half during a gybe.
