East Coast Championship worth the waitPublished 11/10/07
When the new IRC rating rule took hold a few years ago, the Storm Trysail Club-Chesapeake Station changed with the times and converted its East Coast Championship regatta over from the International Measurement System.

Tsunami, a New York Yacht Club Swan 42 co-owned by Annapolis residents John Aras and Preben Ostberg, made its Chesapeake Bay debut by taking first in IRC 2. Aras steered and North Sails professional Larry Leonard called tactics as Tsunami won the distance race and three of the buoy starts.
Three years into the switch, the regatta has grown into one of the finest in the entire country. Confronted with a record number of entries, organizers were forced to create a waiting list and ultimately found room for 45 boats in five clases.
There was a heavyweight battle in IRC 1 between the Transpac 52 Samba Pa Ti and the newly-launched Judel Vrolijk 66.5 Numbers. California skipper John Kilroy...
