PUMA clinched second place overall in the Volvo Ocean Race by placing second on Leg 10 from Stockholm, Sweden to St. Petersburg, Russia. Telefonica Black won a tense battle with PUMA to earn its first leg victory, completing the 400-nautical mile trip across the Baltic Sea and down the Gulf of Finland. The Swedish syndicate, skippered by Spaniard Fernando Echevarri, finished less than a minute ahead of the American team. It marked the sixth straight podium result for PUMA, which closed the Volvo Ocean Race in strong fashion to finish just nine points behind overall winner Ericsson 4.
