Annapolis lands major sailing regattaPublished 10/20/09
Annapolis will host an international sailing regatta next week at City Dock to showcase the local maritime industry and welcome racing crews from around the world. City officials paved the way for the 2009 Melges 24 World Championship yesterday when they signed a lease with the Eastport Yacht Club, allowing the group to host the event, which begins Sunday and runs through Oct. 31. The Melges 24 is a relatively new but increasingly popular class of fast lightweight yachts. Though the city is home to several prestigious regattas, Annapolis has never hosted this event.
