Schools hopeful for money after beg-a-thonPublished 01/31/08
County school officials made their annual plea to the state yesterday, asking for more money to build schools and arguing that current buildings are crumbling.
They weren't alone. Other school jurisdictions made similar pleas during the annual "Beg-a-thon," at the Board of Public Works.
State Comptroller Peter Franchot, Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and Gov. Martin O'Malley listened to the testimony and asked a few questions, but gave no clue as to how they will distribute the $108 million among the 24 school systems.
