St. John's gets $4 million in grants

Economist Adam Smith once wrote, "Money, says the proverb, makes money. When you have got a little, it is often easy to get more."

His words were never more true than at St. John's College this year.

The Hodson Trust has stepped up to match, 3 to 1, a $1 million grant St. John's received from the National Endowment for the Humanities' "We the People" initiative.

That brings the grant total to $4 million - money that will be used to beef up the college's American history program with new books, speakers and seminars.

Mr. Smith would be pleased.
