Businesses team up to build career center at Southern HighPublished 12/14/08
Students who walk into Southern High School soon will be greeted with a new Career and College Center - a coffee and computer-filled haven where they can research life after high school and find scholarships to pay for it.

Southern just received approval to start building a new Career and College Center to help students like Michael sort through their post-graduation options and find scholarships."It will be the heart of the school," said Marilyn Harmon, signature program facilitator at Southern. The high school got approval last month from the county Board of Education to start construction on the $16,550 center, which members of Southern's Business Advisory Board have been planning for five years. Why coffee? Do high schoolers need coffee? Is this available and even encouraged at other high schools? Why does the reporter not even question anyone about why the school thought this was necessary?
