According to data released at the county Board of Education's meeting Wednesday, 20.6 percent of last year's new hires were minorities, compared with 17.6 percent two years ago, and 21.6 percent were men, compared with 20.1 percent two years ago.

As a male teacher from out of state I can attest to the need for high quality (regardless of sex and race) teachers and the definite lack thereof being produced within this state. MD standards are not any higher than those of the surrounding states. PA produces a surplus of certified teachers every year that very easily qualify for a MD Cert. Also PA teaching schools are far and above those in MD. AACPS simply needs to recruit better at these schools.
