It's time to catch up on racing notes, nearly missed headlines and obits that go undected by most horseplayers. It's all gathered from conversations at the track, the so-called "paddock whispers" or after a look at various racing publications. Also, most of the stuff has a Maryland connection if you l look closely and have a long memory.
For example, take the death earlier this month of retired jockey, Bill Pyers, at the age of 71, in Adelaide, South Austrialia. He dominated the jockey standings for years in South Australia, then went to Europe and became famous in France. That's where he picked up some great mounts from trainer...
