Horse Racing: Late trainer never hesitated when it came to entertainingPublished 12/12/04
Trainer Tony Hemmerick, 75, died in Florida last week after almost 60 years in horse racing. He was was good at what he did and would never have considered going into another line of work. He was different from thousands of others in racing all over the country, because he entertained his colleagues and always saw the entertaining side of it. The humor was for insiders, the people who trained, rode, groomed and cared for horses. To appreciate it, you probably had to have been there. To wit: As a teenager, he galloped horses for the celebrated trainer, Hirsch Jacobs in New York and like many young men who were exercise riders...
