Horse racing: Laurel on course with turf designationPublished 08/14/05
In the compilation of what seems like several thousand so-called "handicapping aids," or merely an abundance of statistics that horseplayers seem to demand, there are six new factors that will need to be remembered when Laurel Park reopens on Wednesday, Sept. 7. We'll be treated to vital statistics and an opportunity to revel in recall, back to heady days of Laurel. It's the day when Laurel's new. wide and gorgeous turf course will be put into action. Three, four or maybe even five races on the grass will be conducted each day. Now, single turf courses can't take much abuse with grass being dug into and cut up by sharp hooves....
