Louis Berman is an outstanding athlete who excels in just about every sport he pursues. In addition to being a first team All-County selection in football at Arundel High, Berman was also a national-level performer in competitive cheerleading and an outstanding handball player. However, there was little reason to believe that Berman could make the University of Maryland football team. He is undersized for an inside linebacker at 6-foot and does not possess the type of speed necessary to play either outside linebacker or strong safety.
