Local youths try out triathlon

On a beautiful, 75-degree Fathers' Day, some 200 local youths awakened early to participate in the third annual Truxton Youth Triathlon. The event, held at Truxtun Park, pushes youths aged 7-17 to their athletic limit by putting them through a contest of running, swimming and biking.

"The goal is to introduce kids to a sport they can do for the rest of their lives," said race director Jennifer Bistrack, who works with Annapolis Recreation and Parks. "This event is meant to encourage kids to be physically active."
