NAVY SWIMMING: The Navy swimming and diving programs received a trio of weekly honors from the Patriot League yesterday. Tara Chapmon and Adam Meyer were selected as the league's swimmers of the week, while Bryan Gentz was honored as the men's diver of the week in the league.
Chapmon won three individual events during Navy's 166-134 victory over UMBC last Saturday. After posting a time of 10:21.11 to win the first individual event of the meet, the 100 freestyle, she stepped back up on the blocks and recorded a clocking of 1:52.04 to win the second contested event, the 200 free. She later won the 500 free with a time of 5:00.72.
She also helped Navy win the 400 free relay. Chapmon's time of 51.69 during the third leg of the relay was the fastest of any swimmer in the field.
Meyer also picked up three individual wins to help lead the Navy men's team to a 156-133 victory over UMBC. He began the meet by swimming the butterfly leg of Navy's second-place 200 medley relay team. His clocking of 22.40 was the fastest of any butterflyer by nearly one-quarter of a second. He then went out and swept the two butterfly events with times of 51.31 in the 100 and 1:50.98 in the 200 before winning the 200 individual medley (1:52.84).
