NAVY MEN'S SOCCER: Maryland's Kaoru Forbuss scored the game's lone goal in the 10th minute and the Maryland defense held off every Navy challenge to defeat the Mids, 1-0, in men's soccer action at Ludwig Field last night.
The loss drops Navy's overall record to 8-10-0 overall, while sixth-ranked and defending NCAA Champion Maryland improved to 11-4-2 overall.
NAVY WATER POLO: On the strength of its six-game winning streak and ECAC Championship in mid-September, the No. 12-ranked Navy water polo team was tabbed as the top seed for the upcoming CWPA Southern Division Tournament in a vote by the competing teams' head coaches. The championship gets underway on Friday in Lewisburg, Pa., and will run through Sunday.
Navy sophomore water polo player Kyle Wertz was named the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week for his role in Navy's two wins last week.
STEVENSON MEN'S SOCCER: Kyle Baker's unassisted goal late in the first half proved to be the game winner as fourth-seeded Stevenson extended its winning streak to eight matches with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Salisbury in the semifinal round of the CAC tourney.
STEVENSON FIELD HOCKEY: Stevenson field hockey junior Kara Zimmerman (Arundel) was named ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Defensive Player of the Week yesterday after receiving CAC Field Hockey Player of the Week honors on Monday.
