for tournament surge
COLLEGE PARK - The Houston Cougars are a loose and confident bunch heading into Friday's NCAA first-round encounter with the 20th-ranked Maryland Terrapins in Spokane, Wash.
And why not? The Cougars saved their season and probably their coach's job with their four-game run in the Conference USA Tournament to land a spot in the 65-team field. That was the team's longest winning streak all year and it came at the end of a so-so 15-15 regular season.

And what logic does the NCAA use when scheduling the games? In Round 1, MD plays Houston in Spokane, WA. As weird as that is, the game is scheduled for Friday at 9:40 pm Eastern! So fans in the Eastern & Central time zones have less chance to watch (except for the night owls). On the plus side -- glad the Terps made it in!

I wish the NCAA could do longer planner announcements to allow folks to travel. Travel to Texas is affordable if done with 2 week notice.
