In another life, Don Backe could have been a hunky double for "Gunsmoke" sheriff Matt Dillon, played by James Arness. Mr. Backe is 6 feet 4 inches tall with the same ruggedly handsome looks, gimlet blue eyes and bone-crunching handshake of the TV hero. Unlike the sheriff, Mr. Backe is a skilled sailor with some championship cups to show for his competitive spirit. But the Annapolis man can't mosey down Main Street and grab a cold draft at Miss Kitty's Long Branch Saloon. The saloon is not handicapped-accessible.
