Oil left on stove causes Crofton fire A Crofton home caught fire yesterday afternoon when a pot of oil unexpectedly resumed cooking after power was restored and ignited the oil, a county Fire Department spokesman said. The fire caused about $35,000 damage to 1732 Gunwood Place, rented by the Shane Sappe family and owned by Rod Taylor. Division Chief John Scholz said a resident apparently was heating the oil but forgot to turn the stove off when the power went out due to Tuesday's severe storm.
