He enjoys racing over the water so much, he shipped one to Key West in mid-June. He flew down and then rode it all the way to his Whitehall Beach house overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
On June 20, after months of planning, the retired pharmacist and three adventure-minded acquaintances began their watery 1,450-mile, 12-day odyssey. Mr. Durm pulled up to his dock, festooned with balloons by his daughter, Diane Clark, as a welcome home, around 4 p.m. on July 2.
