Driver jumps off the Bay Bridge during police chasePublished 11/16/04
A Stevensville man is missing after he jumped off the Bay Bridge while being chased by state police early this morning. Police believe James Clark Lewis, 30, leaped off in an attempt to escape at around 2:40 a.m., said Catherine Leahan, spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority. "It wasn't suicide," she said. "We don't know whether he was intoxicated or what." State police said Mr. Lewis, who was being chased for speeding, did not speak to the pursuing trooper after he stopped the 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis on the two-lane eastbound bridge.
