Imaginary flight transports ailing kids to the North PolePublished 12/05/04
Southwest Airlines Pilot David Hopkins bears little resemblance to Tom Hanks, but he sounded just like the movie star yesterday as he welcomed 60 children, their parents and siblings aboard an imaginary flight with a peculiar destination. The North Pole. "Welcome aboard the Polar Express!" Mr. Hopkins said over the plane's intercom at Baltimore-Washington International Airport. "Fasten your seat belts. ... We'll be travelling at 37,000 feet. The latest weather at the North Pole is cold and snowing." A round of cheers went up as the plane pushed back from gate C-2.
