Witnesses charged with perjury

Twin brothers who changed their story on the stand during Terrence Tolbert's murder trial have been charged with perjury, county prosecutors announced yesterday.

Jonathan Aaron Griffin and Jeffrey Allen Griffin, 22, of 467 Long Towne Court in Glen Burnie were arrested Wednesday night. Both have been released.

A grand jury indicted the brothers Feb. 18 on two counts each of perjury, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, though it's very rare for a judge to impose such a harsh penalty for the crime.

Prosecutors said they sought the charges in part to send a message.
