Mayor wants to hike rates for garage, meter parkingPublished 03/13/05
Increasing parking rates, introducing valet parking and experimenting with "pay and display" kiosks are among the wide-ranging proposals Mayor Ellen O. Moyer is rolling out to solve downtown congestion. Ms. Moyer plans to introduce a bill tomorrow in the City Council to raise hourly rates at two city-owned garages by 25 cents and double the hourly charge for meters to $1. The increases could net as much as $1.5 million annually, money that Ms. Moyer wants to apply toward enhancing downtown shuttle service from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
