Haire drops bid for county executive, backs LeopoldPublished 05/12/05
One of three Republican hopefuls vying to be the next county executive dropped out of the race this morning and threw his support behind a state delegate from Pasadena, a sign of GOP efforts to present a unified front next year. Dirk Haire of Annapolis also contributed $6,000 to Del. John Leopold's campaign while praising the lawmaker's experience and ability to win the office being vacated by Democrat Janet S. Owens. Mr. Haire's decision leaves former state delegate Phil Bissett of Mayo as Mr. Leopold's only announced challenger in the Republican primary battle for county executive.
