A blurry picture and a handful of tipsters had led them to question the 36-year-old vagrant on July 18 about the rape of a 59-year-old woman inside her Severna Park home just two days before.
When it came down to it though, they simply didn't have enough to charge him.
Then, 33 hours later, two forensic chemists at the county's Crime Lab were able to provide "definitive evidence" linking Mr. Wren to the rape; his DNA matched a sample recovered from the victim.
Within three hours, Mr. Wren was found walking along Ritchie Highway in Severna Park...
