Edgewater man killed in early crash

CHURCHTON -- An Edgewater man was killed early this morning when his conversion van hit a tree in Deale, county police said.

William Robert Becker Jr., 35, suffered severe head trauma. He was taken by ambulance to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. Lt. Roy Phillips, spokesman for the county fire department, said Mr. Becker died at the scene.

Police suspect Mr. Becker was drunk at the time of the accident. Officer A. Thomas Barcenas Jr. said in his report that there was a strong odor of alcohol inside the van. Excessive speed also appears to have...
