A diamond engagement ring and wedding band graced the late Evelyn Lazer's left hand for almost 70 years. Then, just days before her death, someone yanked the rings from the finger of the 90-year-old resident of the Heritage Harbour Health nursing home just outside Annapolis.
"I would have preferred it if someone just slapped her on the back of the head," said Virginia Lynn Shockey, 48, of Edgewater, Mrs. Lazer's caretaker for the last two years. She said robbing a senior citizen of a family heirloom was the lowest thing a person could do.
