Sheriff leads in county executive campaign cash racePublished 01/19/06
The only Democrat officially running for county executive said yesterday that he raised at least three times more money last year than any of his Republican rivals. Sheriff George F. Johnson IV's campaign said he raised $374,000 last year in his bid to succeed County Executive Janet S. Owens, far exceeding the $103,000 reported by the top Republican, Del. John Leopold. Craig Holmes, the sheriff's campaign treasurer, said that the campaign has spent more on fund-raising than anything else, including $40,000 on staff and $20,000 on campaign materials.
