Shoreline work prompts lawsuitPublished 02/13/06
State and federal environmental officials are going to federal court to get a St. Margarets couple to undo a massive, illegal shoreline project along Whitehall Creek. In a lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, the government is seeking to force William and Janice Costello to pay for a "complete restoration" of the site, including removing unauthorized fill and structures, and conducting off-site improvements to make up for damage that can't be undone. The lawsuit also is seeking $20,000 in civil fines, half for constructing an illegal stone revetment and half for filling in wetlands. The lawsuit...
