County school officials are planning a sweeping new nutrition policy that could ban potluck dinners in schools, tacos in Spanish class and certain homemade sauces at spaghetti dinner fund-raisers. The proposal, part of a new wellness policy expected to be presented to the school board next month, also would ban the sale of soda, candy and some other sugar-loaded snacks during the school day. The new regulations stem from a 2004 update of the federal government's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.
