Danny Jarboe was tired when he heard the knock at the door. It was bad enough that it was a little after 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, but it had been a late night. He, his two roommates and five friends had gotten back to the house about 1 or 2 a.m.; most had been out drinking, while one was working. But they kept the night going, drinking beer and playing cards in the basement. Some smoked marijuana or used cocaine. As morning approached, most trickled upstairs to go to sleep, but three stayed in the basement. Wearing boxers and a T-shirt, with only a couple of hours sleep, Mr. Jarboe walked from his bedroom...
