State's fallen firefighter memorial is ready for dedication

Kathleen Overman thought no one cared her father died 13 years ago fighting a fire.

Now she knows different.

On Sunday, the Maryland Fire Rescue Services Memorial Foundation will dedicate a monument to all 376 firefighters and emergency medical technicians who have died in the line of duty in the state.

"I didn't know anyone even thought about it," said the 16-year-old from Severna Park.

Kathleen was only 3-years-old when her father, William Overman Jr., died of a heart attack April 24, 1993 while fighting a fire outside Arden. An electrical engineer by trade, the 44-year-old was a member of the Herald Harbor...
