Hope fades for Capital publisher Philip Merrill as search continuesPublished 06/12/06
Philip Merrill, publisher of Capital-Gazette Newspapers, was presumed drowned this morning after his sailboat was found drifting off Breezy Point in Calvert County on Saturday. The Coast Guard and state Natural Resources Police used boats and helicopters to comb more than 100 square miles of the bay late Saturday and most of the day yesterday. Police said the search was suspended at midnight and resumed about 5:30 a.m. today. But this morning, the search was changed to a recovery rather than a rescue operation, said Sgt.
