From the White House to downtown Annapolis, leaders are mourning the probable death of publisher and philanthropist Philip Merrill, who disappeared Saturday while sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. Everyone remembers Mr. Merrill as an intelligent, educated and strong-willed man who was a delightful conversationalist, as well as a great force in journalism, politics and environmentalism.
