Schools' nutrition rules start food fightPublished 09/16/06
For years Heather Luke baked chocolate and vanilla cupcakes to celebrate her son's birthdays at Piney Orchard Elementary. But a new nutrition policy will force her to hand out pencils and stickers instead of sharing treats with her fourth-grader's classmates for his January birthday. "This is a tradition we've had in this county for years," Ms. Luke said. Parents and administrators across the county are adjusting to new nutrition rules that put the kibosh on some bake sales and reign in parties with homemade food.
