After months of political maneuvering and election-year hand-wringing over electric bills, Constellation Energy Group, ratepayers and Maryland lawmakers ended this week in a three-way tie for last place when the utility giant euthanized its proposed $12.4 billion merger with Florida Power and Light.
Constellation, citing "continued uncertainty over regulatory and judicial matters in Maryland," will miss out on $28 billion in combined revenue annually. Homeowners may watch all or at least part of the promised credits on their monthly bills evaporate.
