County police said all five bills - passed at Oriental Treasures and Body Basics Nov. 7 - were doctored in order to beat the specially marketed iodine pens.
The Capital will not release the method police believe the counterfeiters used to foil the pens.
Ed Lugo, special agent in charge of the U.S. Secret Service's Maryland District, said iodine pens are one of the easiest ways to detect a counterfeit - but not the best.
