State House press icon retires

"Let's go ask Stuckey" is a refrain heard every day in the State House as reporters and politicians seek out information from Associated Press reporter Tom Stuckey.

After Thursday, they'll have to go elsewhere.

Mr. Stuckey, a Bay Ridge resident who grew up in the East Texas oil fields, is retiring.

He came to the State House 42 years ago, in the spring of 1964, a cub reporter who'd been with the AP just two years.

When Mr. Stuckey arrived at State Circle, J. Millard Tawes was governor, William S. James was senate president, and Marvin Mandel was house speaker.
