Bush signs bill creating historic bay water trailPublished 12/20/06
Merry Christmas, Chesapeake Bay. The president just gave you a unique present: a water trail. President Bush signed a bill into law yesterday creating the Capt. John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, which will meander around the bay marking the highlights of the explorer's voyages 400 years ago. "It's just, wow, here it is," said John Page Williams, a senior naturalist at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. This will be the first national trail on water, instead of land. Though plans aren't finalized, signs and special buoys will point the way for boaters. There will be maps and guides, too. And landlubbers...
